Sprint and Samsung…take on Apple. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. A couple of months before Apple begins selling its iPhone, Sprint and Samsung have announced a new mobile phone designed for music….called, appropriately enough, the Upstage. Sprint VP Danny Bowman…

"Well it certainly is going to Upstage the industry as we know it today. We really feel the upstage is a perfect trifecta of what we've been able to do with a beautiful form factor, focused on our music service towards a music lover and at the same time, leveraging the most powerful network in the U.S. through our phone service." It's a double sided thin phone. What are some of the other advantages you feel it will have? "Not only is Upstage double sided, meaning make it really simple when I want to use the phone, you press a flip button, it turns over and now it's a music player. There are some key features we have with this. In the Bluetooth area, not only will you have your traditional Bluetooth, we have Bluetooth stereo. And we have a new feature called Bluetooth Caller ID. So while you're listening to your music and you get a phone call, it'll whisper into your ear who is calling you and you can either accept that call or not. Some other things that we've done…we have a multitasking manager that's part of this. So if you want to browse the Internet, send a text message while you're listening to music…you can do that at the same time."

Sprint, in the meantime, has dropped the price of music that can be downloaded straight to the phone…to 99 cents. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
