A comeback for broadcast TV? I'm Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. While cable, phone and satellite companies slug it out in the battle for TV service in our homes... mobile devices may resurrect good old fashioned antenna signals. The Open Mobile Video Coalition...an alliance of commercial and public broadcasters ...is in the process of rolling out mobile digital TV. The coalition's Dave Arland says it's not the same as the subscription based FloTV available on some phones and handheld TVs today....
"It's really about taking the local stations that you're familiar with... the favorite news, sports, weather, emergency alerts... and allowing you to see those on your mobile device. The ability to do that is technically now possible."
A relatively simple and not too costly addition to transmitters...will allow TV stations around the country to broadcast signals to everything from mobile phones to notebook PCs You can find us with archives, interviews and more at BootCamp.com. I'm Fred Fishkin.
