A new Hopper from Dish Network

Techstination feature for Monday, January 21, 2013

A new Hopper from Dish Network.   I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear.    Among the best new gadgets announced at this month’s International Consumer Electronics Show, was a brand new version of the Hopper from Dish Network.   It features built in Sling Box capability, letting you watch live or recorded programs on tablets, smartphones and computers from anywhere.   And, says CEO Joe Clayton….

“We’ve added Hopper transfers, which allows you to take your content, your pre-recorded content, anyplace you want with you at home or on the go without an Internet connection.  We have something called Dish Explorer, which is really a second screen capability.”

Dish is embroiled in a legal battle with some broadcasters, including CBS, over its commercial skipping technology.  That generated controversy at CES when CBS owned CNET pulled its Best of CES Award from Dish Network because of that.   There’s more to come.   You can find us with archives, full interviews and more at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
