Garmin jumps into the action cam competition. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. It’s been a hot consumer electronics category dominated by the folks at GoPro. And now Garmin is getting into the action or sports cam biz with two models….the VIRB and the VIRB Elite…which adds WiFi, GPS and some other features. The basics? Garmin’s Maddie Estrada….
“They are 2 1080p HD action cameras. They are IPX7 waterproof right out of the box. So they can record video and take high quality stills and they’re super rugged. So you don’t have to worry about putting a case on it to withstand the elements. The only thing you would ever really need a case for would be scuba diving and we do have a special case for that.”
The VIRB…that’s v I r b…cameras arrive this month for about 3 and 4 hundred dollars. There’s more info at Garmin.com. You can find us at BootCamp.com. I’m Fred Fishkin.
