Toshiba’s solution for data on the go. I’m Fred Fishkin with technology BootCamp, a report on gadgets and gear. It looks like a typical 1 terabyte external hard drive, but Toshiba’s Canvio Aerocast lets smartphones and tablets connect to it through its own WiFi. Product manager Jacky Lee says it can work with some TVs as well…
“We have an iOS app and also an Android app. For the Android app, it’s Google Cast ready. So that means if you have a TV equipped with a Chrome Cast device, you’ll be able to stream your local content directly from the Aerocast to the TV.”
The Canvio Aerocast can also back up photos and more from your mobile devices and has an SD card slot as well for backing up the memory card from a digital camera. Toshiba’s software lags a bit behind some rivals like Seagate, SanDisk and Western Digital. But there are plans for improvements, like DLNA support down the road. You can find us at BootCamp.com.
