Coming up with standards for Virtual Reality

Techstination feature for Tuesday, February 14, 2017

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.   Virtual Reality is one of most interesting new technologies around with all kinds of potential uses….from education and business to gaming.    But you don’t have to go too far back….think 3D TV….to remember that when companies compete with different standards…they run the risk of losing consumers.   A group called the VR Industry Forum is working to prevent that from happening this time around.   Among the leaders is Ericsson’s David Price…

“We’ve got the studios and we’ve got the head mounted display manufacturers,  we’ve got everybody involved in this including standards bodies and advocacy groups like Cable Labs and Movie Labs.  So we are quite getting up to speed quite quickly.”

The hope is the consumer interest  and excitement around VR will continue to grow.
