Tech Toy of the Year from Thames and Kosmos

Techstination feature for Friday, March 17, 2017

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.      Learning to code through a video game.   That’s the concept that has garnered Code Gamer from Thames and Kosmos the Tech Toy of the Year award.   The games are played on a smartphone or tablet using a clever controller.  CEO Andrew Quartin…

“It’s basically a kit that teaches kids to code through playing a video game.  You learn about the Arduino coding language.”

You can find it on Amazon for about 80 dollars.  There’s much more from the company too.  One favorite is  Happy Atoms,  a physical toy that works with an app to teach chemistry…without the danger of blowing up the house.    I know that sounds like it takes all the fun out of chemistry, but trust me, it’s pretty cool.  Kits start at about fifty dollars…and go all the way up to a 700 dollar bundle designed for schools.  There’s more info at ThamesandKosmos.com.
