Apple prepares to take on Amazon Alexa and Google Home

Techstination feature for Monday, June 12, 2017

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.    Apple is taking on Amazon and Google with its own Siri based intelligent home assistant.    The HomePod will arrive in December carrying a price tag of 349 dollars.   At Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference, Senior VP Phil Schiller put the emphasis on music and the sound quality of HomePod…even when it comes to the artificial intelligence…

“The Siri team has worked very hard to adapt the domain of music in Siri to be even greater and understand even more of the questions we’re going to ask about music.  Simple things like play Beats One Radio.  Play something new.  Who is singing on this track?  Something I ask all the time…who is playing drums on this track?  To complex questions like what was the top song playing on May 5th, 2016?”

Apple is also promising that users of HomePod won’t have to worry about privacy.    There’s more to come.  You can find us at Techstination.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
