Facebook & NYU's Yann LeCun on the smarts behind Smart Driving Cars

Techstination feature for Friday, June 23, 2017

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.   He is the man credited with creating the technology called convolutional neural networks or CNN Today Yann LeCun is the head of Artificial Intelligence Research at Facebook and is also a professor at NYU.  CNNs essentially allow machines to recognize things around them.  Deep learning.  That could help Facebook know more about you….and the technology is also what may also help self driving cars fulfill their promise. He explains…

“So deep learning is a set of techniques, you could say it’s a sub-field of machine learning.  So machine learning is a set of techniques that allow us to train machines by showing them examples as opposed to program them basically.”

The technology is important in many areas.  Self driving cars for instance.  The goal…

“Eventually I think we’ll find ways for machines to train themselves well enough that we won’t have to engineer a lot of the details.  It will just learn.”

As we like to say… stay tuned.      You can find us at Techstination.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
