Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.   The kids are off from school and for parents, that can mean trying to find ways to make the most of screen time.   Not only is it a good idea to limit how much time is spent front of TVs, phones and tablets….it’s a good idea to make sure that when the kids are in front of screens…what they are viewing is worthwhile.   Sara DeWitt is vice president of digital for PBS Kids…says the first thing to do is get picky about what is being viewed…

“If you’re child is very interested in animals, they love to point out dogs on the street and things like that, then look for an animal show because you know your child is already interested in this.  And this is going to engage them even more deeply on the topic.  But then the most critical thing you can do is have a conversation with your kid about what they watched.”

DeWitt, by the way,  is mom to a three year old.
