Banks partner for Zelle peer to peer payments

Techstination feature for Tuesday, September 19, 2017

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.    Zelle is the name of a new platform being used by more than 34 banks around the country designed to make it easy to make peer to peer mobile payments.    It’s designed to be easy to use…and fast.  In fact Zelle is short for gazelle.   Meaning you don’t have to wait days for a payment you receive to show up in your bank account.   Gareth Gaston is digital banking coach at U. S. Bank…

“The Zelle service makes it really easy for people to send money to each other knowing just their mobile phone number or email address.  And the money goes directly from your bank account to the recipient’s bank account almost instantly.”

Gaston says it is available now to about 95 percent of the banking population in the U.S. and growing all the time.   He calls it an alternative to using cash or checks.
