Sony is bringing back its robotic dog Aibo

Techstination feature for Friday, November 10, 2017

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.   Like the return of a TV show that only enjoyed a small cult following….Sony is bringing back the robotic dog Aibo.    Aibo first appeared more than eighteen years ago…and then the project was abandoned in 2005.    Technology has changed a lot over the last dozen years.   The new Aibo includes a lot more artificial intelligence…movement capability….connectivity.  The new Aibo can respond to its owners voice and can learn to get around the house.    But unless you are in Japan…Aibo is not available.   Pre-orders have opened there, with deliveries set to begin on January 11th.    And the price comes in at more than 17 hundred dollars.   On top of that, you’ll need to pay for a wireless subscription.    Will there be sustained demand?   Maybe.   But maybe even more than the price, the biggest drawback may be the two hour battery life and three hour recharging time.
