Google adds audio books to smart speakers and more

Techstination feature for Thursday, February 1, 2018

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.    Google is continuing to play catch up with Amazon when it comes to smart speakers.    Google’s LaToya Drake says the company has now added audiobooks…through the Google Play Books app…

“So these devices don’t just give us the opportunity to listen to music, there’s also a chance to do things like reading…other types of leisure activities.”

There are a variety of Google Home speakers on the market…from the Mini to the Max…and Google Home of course…and some very good sounding third party speakers…including one from Sony…that are worthwhile.   The audio books from Google don’t require a subscription and can also be accessed from both Android and iOS mobile devices.  Google is making many titles available at discounted prices and will give you half off on your first audiobook title as well.

You can find us at Techstination.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
