Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.    Whether you love the idea….or fear it….the era of self driving cars is coming closer and closer.    Google’s Waymo has plans to rapidly expand its fleet ….ordering thousands of self driving mini vans from Fiat Chrysler….and they are far from alone.    But at Kelley Blue Book, executive analyst Akshay Anand says while the progress is real….it will still take some time…

“Theoretically,  there are cars on the road today that have self driving vehicle components.  Adaptive cruise control features and features that keep you in your lane.   But if self driving cars are the things that people think about where there are no steering wheels and no pedals…we’re still a long ways away from that.”

Both when it comes to the technology and regulations.   Stay tuned.
