Self driving vehicles as more affordable public transportation

Techstination feature for Monday, July 23, 2018

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.        The coming world of self driving cars…is probably closer than you think.   Even though there’s still a lot of work to do.   And at Princeton University, the faculty chair for autonomous vehicle engineering…Professor Alain Kornhauser…is pushing hard to ensure that the technology is used primarily to help people and populations that have a real need for affordable ride sharing transportation.  What could it mean?

“These people now have mobility opportunities that are equivalent to those of us that own cars.  And this allows them to get to hospitals and meet appointments and to be able to get to jobs.”

Kornhauser says that’s the real promise.   Not so much the idea of having a private vehicle in your driveway equipped with self driving technology.
