Teaching programming to kids as young as three. Cubetto.

Techstination feature for Wednesday, November 16, 2016

Teaching programming to kids as young as three.   I’m Fred Fishkin with BootCamp, your Techstination for gadgets and gear.   There are lots of toys and games coming to market designed to get kids interested in science, technology, engineering and math…or STEM….and coding too.   Primo Toys has taken a unique approach to the learning process with Cubetto.   It’s a little wooden box or robot that moves around  boards set up for play linked to story books.   Head of Marketing Rob Simpson….

“He’s a friendly wooden robot and he likes to be told where to go and how to get there.  And the way that you can do that is by using our interface board here…and it’s all screenless…no code, no on screen stuff or apps like that….you can use the coding blocks here to tell him where to go.  So it’s really the first program a child will write.”

Brilliant.   It is fun…and teaches kids simple programming skills and logic.   It is beautifully crafted of wood, but the price, north of 200 dollars may be a drawback to some.  There’s much more information at PrimoToys.com.    You can find us at BootCamp.com.   I’m Fred Fishkin.
