Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.     When it comes to smartphones, put Google right up there with Apple and Samsung.     Apple got a lot right with the iPhone 7 Plus.   My favorite feature is probably the camera’s portrait mode.  The Samsung Galaxy S7 has a lot going for it too…and it has helped to keep the company’s ship afloat after the Galaxy Note 7 disaster.   And while both Apple and Samsung will of course have new models coming out this year…..Google has let it be known that it will also be following up with a new Pixel handset.  And the versions being sold now by Verizon…and directly by Google….are full of impressive features.   I’ve spent some time with the Pixel XL…the large screen model….and just about everything about it has been well thought out.  The biggest drawback to all of these phones…are the hefty price tags.  And if rumors are correct…look for even high prices with the new models this year.
