Airthings brings radon detection into digital age

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.   The dangers of radon have been well documented over the years with studies finding direct evidence that radon in the home is a leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers.   A company called Airthings is out with a connected detector designed to help keep you and your family safe.   It works with iOS and Android. The Airthings Wave, which sells for about two hundred dollars, looks very much like a smoke detector and installs just as easily.   CEO Oyvind Birkenes…

“The problem with Radon is that it fluctuates a lot.  Significant fluctuations over time.  So if you do a short term test, it really depends on when you took the test.  So what we do is to provide  something that gives you long term monitoring of radon, because it is the long term exposure which is dangerous.”
