Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.   Ready Mobile is getting in the Groove to help customers battle distracted driving.    The mobile carrier is partnering with a company called Katasi to offer a device called Groove….designed to block drivers from being distracted by their mobile device.    Katasi CEO Scott Tibbitt says it plugs into a car’s diagnostic port….and enables Ready Mobile to block texting and certain other distracting apps…while allowing the phone to be used for things like navigation or music streaming…

“So once the drive starts, the driver’s identified and then these distractions are stopped before they even get to the handset.  There’s nothing that even gets to the phone.  Nobody knows there’s something that might tempt them to pick it up and try to figure out the message.  And then when the key gets turned off at the end of the drive, within fifteen seconds, all of the function returns.”
