Google offers help for supermarket lines

Techstination feature for Monday, November 20, 2017

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.       If you’re dreading that trip to the supermarket….filled with folks buying turkeys and stuffing and the like…..Google says it would like to help.     Google can now tell you how bad the checkout line is….so you can pick a different time…or maybe a different store.    Google’s LaToya Drake says it is getting the info from other users…but you shouldn’t worry about privacy…

“Yeah, it’s very anonymous.   If you have location services turned on, anyone can turn them off.   It doesn’t give you who is in the grocery store.  It gives you the average amount of time that people are waiting online to checkout for instance.  And if you’re searching for a grocery store, let’s say Whole Foods, Trader Joes or whatever grocery store is in your local market, it will give you a general estimate of how long you can expect to wait on line.”

Now if it could only tell me which line is going to move faster.
