Honest, brutal & challenge to capture: Nat Geo Wild's Savage Kingdom Uprising

Techstination feature for Tuesday, December 5, 2017

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear.   I’m Fred Fishkin.    Well if you think you’ve run into challenges trying to take videos or photos in the great outdoors…imagine what it’s like to be a cinematographer for Nat Geo Wild.   Brad Bestelink is the man behind the camera for Savage Kingdom: Uprising….airing now on Friday nights on Nat Geo Wild.   The series gives an honest look, he says, at the battles for survival that take place on the African plains…and it can be brutal.   Brutal for the camera gear too…

“We use a company called Red Digital Cinema for our cameras.  We are a long period of time in the bush.  The brain and the main part of that equipment is very, very robust and withstands the harsh conditions.  And they do really, really well for us.”

Even so…there’s a need to carry along spares.   Again, you can catch Savage Kindom: Uprising on Friday nights on Nat Geo Wild.
