Picture It...Turns Pro

Techstination feature for Tuesday, August 20, 2002

Picture It... .turns pro. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Microsoft has created one of the leading easy to use programs for working with digital photos... .in Picture It. Companies like Adobe, Corel and Jasc Software have had the best products for more experienced users. Now Microsoft is moving in on that territory... with Picture It Digital Image Pro. Product manager Michelle Richardson...

"We've added some significant advanced photo editing features such as the ability to adjust the levels in your photo. So you can adjust the mid-tones, the highlights and the shadow of the particular photo so the tonal ranges in your photo. We can add a flash back, so if you're taking a picture and you forgot to add your flash at the time of your photo, there's likely some areas that are too dark and some that are too light. So we'll adjust for that by adding the flash back into your photo. You can reduce the backlighting in your photo. We have also added Adobe Photo Shop plug-in filters."

Microsoft has added videos to help with the learning process as well... (sound) The program is a good step up for users who may have started to do some simple editing with the original Picture It, but it is more expensive. The 109 dollar package competes directly not with the full version of Photo Shop... .but with Adobe's Photo Shop Elements... which also has a new version hitting store shelves. More on that in an upcoming report. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
