I Hate Spam

Techstination feature for Friday, August 23, 2002

Are your email arteries clogged with Spam? Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. There are more and more products on the market that promise to get rid of all that junk email. The best I've seen yet comes from Sun Belt Software... where president Alex Eckelberry says it's called...

"I Hate Spam. And we tried to really get a name that would get a lot of people's emotions about Spam. People are very upset, very annoyed about Spam. I hate Spam is a product that I think a lot of people will get some satisfaction out of."

I Hate Spam works as a plug in for Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express. The program creates quarantine folders for the Spam... .and lets users check to make sure email they want to receive doesn't wind up in there by mistake. Its strength is in its ability to detect most junk email... right out of the box...

"One of the features we have is when you first start up the program, we automatically load in your Windows address book at your request and emails from your friends who are in your address book will always get through to you. You can also set how aggressive the program is in going out and detecting the Spam."

The software does a good job keeping itself up to date. It beats other programs that only let mail through from authorized senders. I Hate Spam... .isn't perfect... it doesn't catch all of the junk email... but it does a good enough job to be well worth the price tag of twenty dollars. You can download a 30 day free trial version of the software at ihatespam.us. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
