"The way it works is a sample of saliva is placed on a little lens. The sample's allowed to dry... and then you take a look at the saliva once it's dry and a certain pattern will appear once a woman starts approaching ovulation."
Dr. Sadaty, who is serving as a consultant to the distributor of the device, says it has a number of advantages over other ovulation testing methods...
"Because the test measures increasing estrogen levels, or at least a by product of increasing estrogen levels, it gives you a three to four day window of opportunity."
The doctor says the lipstick sized microscope with a built in light gives a big advantage to women with irregular cycles. And, it can also be less expensive.
