"The latest announcement from the HPNA was that we are moving towards a 3.0 specification which will support hundred megabit per second connectivity."
That's ten times faster than the current phoneline networks. Marshall, who is a VP at home networking equipment maker 2Wire, says the new phone line networking standard will have several advantages...
"The first one being ... no new wires. The second one with the 3.0 standard will be higher bandwidth... .100 megabit per second throughput. And then the third of course, which is unique to HPNA is that it actually has a quality of service component which allows for it to basically manage voice and video in such a way that it maintains the quality of that signal."
Unfortunately the new standard probably won't be widely available until late next year. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
