"We know that the average gamer is 28 years old and we made Dead to Rights for a mature audience looking for an experience similar to their favorite Hollywood and Hong Kong action movies. We know that this audience has played video games for more than twenty years and we set out to make a game that was like an action movie and the type of adult subject matter and violence are key parts of those movies."
More and more games feature violence and sometimes nudity. One of the big concerns is whether stores and parents are paying enough attention to the ratings to keep the mature games out of the hands of kids... .
"I think we've done all we can as content game creators to try to take every measure we can to try to make sure it gets into the hands of the right player. And beyond that it's really out of our control."
Most toy and electronics stores have said they are trying to adhere to the ratings on the packages when it comes to sales. But as with music and movies... the success seems mixed at best. What parents need to know is that video games... even on Nintendo's Game Cube... aren't just Super Mario any more...
"The amount of success that's been had through mature titles is certainly going to warrant plenty more."
