Wireless networks everywhere. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Its nickname is WiFi. 802.11 wireless networking... that is allowing more and more people to connect to networks and the Internet through radio signals. A company called Cometa Networks, launched by partners that include AT&T, IBM and Intel... is promising to bring the technology everywhere. Or pretty much everywhere. Chairman Theodore Schell..says Cometa will be a wholesaler of sorts... .selling the wireless backbone to other carriers which in turn will sell it to business users and consumers...

"And we believe that there are really well over probably approaching 20 million workers in the United States who go to work every day without going to their office. And yet at the same time, in order to perform their jobs, to be productive members of their enterprises, they need access to the enterprise computing systems. And if they have access based upon a broadband network, it is much more effective." Those are the customers you are going after first? "We believe that the real initial demand, like with most other communications services will start with the major enterprise."

Time was, not so very long ago, that the only people walking around with cell phones were business executives. Cometa believes pricing for access to the wireless network it is building will eventually be as low as fifteen dollars a month. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
