"For example, we actually have cameras that can focus in a zero light condition. We have cameras that help you compensate for difficult exposure conditions. Things where an amateur photographer would have trouble taking a sharp or well exposed picture, we have technologies that help them do that."
The new P series Cyber-shot cameras start at 3.2 megapixels for about 230 dollars. A 5 megapixel model, the P92, will sell for about 500. Sony says surprisingly for a down economy, more consumers are gravitating towards the mid to high end of the market... instead of the 200 dollar or so entry point...
"We think people are going to spend more around 400 quite frankly. 400 to 500. We think there's so much value being delivered at those price points, we really expect people to spend upwards in the 400 to 400 dollar zones."
. Although the picture quality from a 3 megapixel camera is fine for most people, even for enlargements 8 by 10 or better. Sony's new cameras will have the added advantage of being able to use high speed USB 2.0 connections to PCs and higher capacity Memory Stick Pro media cards.
