Kodak's Digital Camera Dock That Prints

Techstination feature for Wednesday, March 26, 2003

A new digital photo printing option from Kodak. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Kodak has been scrambling not to lose business as more consumers take pictures digitally instead of with film. The company has focused on making simple to use digital cameras and store kiosks for making digital prints. Now, digital imaging marketing director Philip Scott says Kodak has a new digital camera docking station... that doubles as a photo printer...

"The Kodak EasyShare Printer Dock 6000 is just that. It's the world's first printer-dock combination. So it allows you to take an Easy Share camera and dock it, get all the benefits of what our docks provide which is recharging of your camera battery as well as one touch transfer of your images or pictures to your PC. But it takes it one step further and allows you to get great Kodak quality 4 by 6 prints directly from a digital camera without every connecting to a PC if you choose not to."

The printer dock will arrive at the end of April for about 200 dollars. The cost per print, according to Kodak, will be about 63 cents. One down side... it won't work with existing Easy Share camera models...

"The first camera that will be available in the U.S. will be the DX 6340, that is a 3 megapixel, 4X optical zoom camera. That will be available at the same time, basically late April, early May."

Future camera models will be designed to work with the printer dock as well. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
