Instead of pushing a particular type of weight loss program, eDiets.com is offering subscribers personalized plans for a number of popular diets. The company's chief strategist, Alison Tanner...

"By the end of 2002 we had ten internally developed diets. And what we are doing now is taking our know how in taking a diet concept and automating it and creating the personalized tools like meal plans and shopping lists and we're adding other popular diets that our members have requested like The Zone and Atkins. And we have exclusive agreements with those companies to offer the online versions of their meal plans."

eDiets claims to have a million users who pay five dollars a week for personalized diet services online. And for those who can't decide which diet to attempt...

"We do offer a program, the diet needs analysis that people can take when they come to our site, to understand among the proliferation of different diets available what is going to be best for them."
