Cordless Headset for Office Phones

Techstination feature for Monday, May 5, 2003

A cordless headset for that office phone. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Lots of office workers use headsets to keep their hands free while talking on the phone. Lots of others use speaker phones for group conversations in conference rooms. GN Netcom, part of Great Nordic, a Danish based technology group, has a new device that can replace both a wired headset and a speakerphone. The GN Netcom 9120. Senior marketing VP Tobe Cohen...

"Our product has a range of 300 feet, which really allows people to get around whatever their working environment and their immediate working surroundings would be. And it has a talk time of eight hours and they're doing all of this off of their existing business telephone."

The lightweight headset charges on a base unit that connects to the phone. And the base station can connect to up to four headsets at a time...

" If somebody were to come into my office and they had their GN9120 cordless headset and I had my headset, all that they would need to do would be to place their headset in my base station, which sits right next to my phone, and their headset would now be synchronized with my headset on my telephone as well so we could both join in the conversation."

Prices start at about 350 dollars. There are other solutions that could be less expensive... office phones for example that have built in conferencing capability. GN Netcom is hoping the convenience of going wireless will be worth the difference. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
