America 24-7

Techstination feature for Monday, May 12, 2003

A week in the life of America. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The team that created the Day in the Life series of photography books has a new project underway this week... America 24-7. Project director David Elliot Cohen... a thousand professional photographers will be shooting digital pictures this week...

"But we're also asking Americans across the country, no matter what your level of photography is to use a digital camera, take pictures of your family, your neighborhood, your community, your pets and send them to us on our Web site, America24-7.com, and they could be used in the book."

The digital photos have to be taken before May 18th. Camera maker Olympus is a partner in the project, but Cohen says any type of digital camera can be used...

"The great thing about digital photography is that it's unleashed this amazing creativity and people can instantly send their pictures, we can instantly receive them. The best picture editors in the country are going to be looking at these photographs. We hope that we'll discover the great new digital photographers of the future."

Cohen says the hope is the photos will tell personal stories. The initial America 24-7 book will be published this fall. There are plans to create separate publications for each state next year...

"If you think you're a great photographer or even if you think you're just a pretty good photographer, you've always wanted to be on a Day in the Life project or one of these big photo shoots, here's your chance. Send us your pictures. Tell us about your life."
