"What we're doing is taking the existing television cables in the house, the coax cables that you plug your television into, and making that 10/100 Ethernet, meaning it's a hundred megabits per second which is probably five times faster than you could practically get with wireless and more than ten times faster than the other technologies."
Without, says D'Addio, interfering with cable or satellite TV transmissions or broadband cable...
"The first product we're calling Coaxsys Pure Speed and it's got a hub that controls the whole house, it plugs into the video demarcation point. And then adaptors that will plug into any coax adaptor in the house. And the price point for two adaptors and a hub and the associated wires that it take to get from the adaptor to your particular Ethernet piece of equipment will run about 350 dollars."
The 350 dollar starter price is higher than most of the other wired or wireless network alternatives. Coaxys is counting on demand for the higher home network speed to be fueled by applications like video sharing. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
