"We expect the market for LCDs to grow 44 percent from '02 to '03. Roughly last year we saw over 33 percent growth. So we see the growth continuing to accelerate as people migrate from CRT technologies to flat panels."
LCD monitors have become a lot more affordable than they were a couple of years ago. Market researcher IDG estimates sales of the screens will top 20 billion dollars this year... surpassing the amount of money made from conventional CRT monitors. But Roque says he doesn't expect prices to decline much more for the most popular screen sizes...
"Fifteen inch we're starting to see a firming up ... from the panel price point of view it's starting to firm up with even a slight increase. Seventeen inch probably will continue to have a little continuing trend to be more affordable."
Samsung and other manufacturers have been introducing more models in a wide screen format. Some of the advantages of LCD monitors over CRTs are... they take up less desk space... are much lighter... the displays have less flicker, consume less power and should last longer as well.
