"Right now the big question for the consumer is which format do I support. Am I going to buy a plus drive, a dash drive, even a drive that does both plus and dash. What we aim to do is to remove all of the complexities away from the customer and present them with a drive that does DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD RAM, as well as CD-R and CD-RW... in one single drive."
With the internal version selling at 329 dollars and an external USB 2.0 model selling for 379. They should arrive in stores later this summer. The drives are more versatile than those introduced months ago by Sony. For many consumers... Giannini says... the external model will be the easier option...
"The USB 2.0 and the internal drive meet both the same speed specifications so there is no penalty for going to an external unit. You get the benefit of being able to transport the drive to other computers and the ease of installation is much easier with the external. One cable, USB, plug it into the computer."
