DVD Creation Software

Techstination feature for Tuesday, July 22, 2003

Creating your own DVDs. Software to make it simple. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. If there is anything holding back faster adoption of DVD burning on personal computers... it's the perception that it probably takes too much time to learn how to do it. That used to be the case... but now a number of software packages make it pretty simple. CyberLink... which makes the software which is often bundled with DVD drives... is out with version 2 of its PowerProducer package...

"And one of the nice things is you can get as fancy or as simple as you want. If you just say I want to take this tape and put it on a disc and not have any menus... put in the disc and play it... you can do that. If you want to do some basic menus, maybe have it automatically set up chapters as it, you know chapters in your movie while it runs it to the disc, you can do that. And you can even go back after you burn the disc, you can add to it, you can edit it, you can change the menus, change the backgrounds, you know rearrange the buttons and change the titles on the buttons."

CyberLink's Michael Demeyer. The expectation is lots of computers sold this fall and during the upcoming holiday season will include DVD creation capability...

"It probably won't switch to where there's more writeable DVDs than CDs until maybe 2005, but the attach rates for the writeable DVDs are coming up very, very quickly."

And PCs with them are getting more affordable. DVD burning drives have been dropping in price as well if you are looking to add one to your current PC. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
