The Promise of Networked Entertainment...Prismiq

Techstination feature for Friday, August 1, 2003

The promise of networked entertainment in the home. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. The flood of devices that connect home computers with TVs, stereos and other consumer electronics devices has just begun. And while some well known names are selling them, a private company called Prismiq... has created one of the most useful so far... the Prismiq MediaPlayer Entertainment Gateway. VP Brad Kayton...

"It's a product package that consists of a set top box, a CD that you put into your PC, a full set of cables and documentation and what it does is it allows you to connect all of the PCs in a home and the Internet and play PC based Internet entertainment. That would include your media library... your audio files..you might have MP3s, video files, digital photos. You can also do Internet radio on the stereo system as well as display the Web on the television as well as do instant messaging on the television."

And the 250 dollar system can be upgraded with a PC card to use the faster 802.11G wireless networking standard. The ability to pull in content from multiple PCs around the house is a plus... and they can be running operating systems as old as Windows 98...

"The newer PCs are certainly fine and you get a little bit better performance. But it can work with older PCs that are three or four years old."

The Prismiq box can connect to Macs and Linux PCs as well. You can find more information at P R I S M I Q.com. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
