New Digital Photo Tools From Microsoft

Techstination feature for Monday, August 4, 2003

New digital photo tools from Microsoft. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. With the ever increasing popularity of digital photography, software tools for working with digital pictures are getting better all of the time. Companies like Adobe and Jasc that have specialized in digital imaging for years are facing some tough competition from Microsoft... which is just out with its Digital Image 9 Suite. Product manager Michelle Richardson...

"What we've done this year is we've created a suite of applications that include Digital Image Pro, which is our high end editing application, and we've also included Digital Image Library, which is a brand new application. What this will help people do is it will provide a complete solution for customers to be able to import their photos, edit them, share them and archive their photos."

The Digital Image Library application competes with Adobe's Photoshop Album... a great tool that creates a timeline for all of the photos stored on your PC. And there are new features in version 9 of Digital Image Pro...

"We've added some new editing technology. So now we've added the new smart erase feature where it's really easy to eliminate unwanted objects from your photo. We've added the blending brush, so instead of copying the individual picture it copies the texture."

There are high end tools that only advanced users will utilize... in the package that lists for about a hundred thirty dollars. If your needs are simple, Microsoft's lower end Picture It package... sells for under 50 dollars or less with rebates. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin
