More Space Made Easy... External Hard Drives

Techstination feature for Monday, October 6, 2003

Need more computer storage? External hard drives make it easy. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Hard drives that come on PCs are bigger than ever... but just like your garage... they tend to fill up with junk as time goes on. You can go on a file deleting mission... or simply add more drive space. USB 2.0 and FireWire ports on PCs and notebooks have made it simple to add drives without having to open up the box. Maxtor has updated its OneTouch line of external hard drives with capacities up to 300 gigabytes. Maxtor's Anna Jen...

"It's now in a very high quality anodized aluminum enclosure. So it looks really sleek, feels very nice to the touch, very high quality and durable. We've also highlighted the one touch back up button because it's such a strong feature of this product."

The button automatically launches software to back up files from your PC. A 250 gigabyte drive that connects to either a USB 2.0 or Firewire port sells for about 350 dollars. If portability is more important than capacity... Archos has an amazingly small... less than the size of an old floppy diskette... and just a little bit thicker hard drive just out. It stores 20 gigabytes... fits in your pocket... and is powered from the USB port on most computers. It sells for about 250 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
