Raining? Play Golf on Your PC

Techstination feature for Friday, April 2, 1999

It's that time of year when a young man's fancy turns to ...golf. I'm Fred Fishkin with Bootcamp, a report on computers and technology. Actually men and women of all ages can be found on golf courses these days. And when they can't get there, playing on a computer is the next best thing. ActiVision is out with Jack Nicklaus 6, Golden Bear Challenge... (sound) The graphics are spectacular, there's commentary from Jim Nance of CBS and says associate product manager Jamey Gottlieb, the game play is better than ever...

"We have done a couple of things with Jack Nicklaus 6 to really make it head and shoulders above the rest of the golf games out there. One is we allow the player to play as Jack Nicklaus, arguably the greatest golfer of all time and essential to the fantasy of playing golf games as this great golfer."

Half a dozen Nicklaus designed courses are included...

"So we've taken these courses, done the graphics, done the whole fly overs, done the incredible photography, and incorporated it into the very realistic graphics of the game."

It is hard for a computer mouse to give you the feel for a real golf club, but Gottlieb says you really can learn by playing...and from the on screen tips from Nicklaus himself. The suggested greens fees come to about forty dollars.
