Now computer makers are adding features they hope will get people to spend more on new machines. At Intel, Louis Burns is the vice president and general manager of the desktop platform group...

"We think there's a big opportunity for growth and some pretty exciting things going on in an area we call the digital home... which is really about the CE industry and the computing industry to deliver devices in people's homes around the world to allow them to work with digital pictures, digital video, their MP3 files, share them throughout their homes on TVs and other devices."

Intel designed the Gateway 610... all in one Media Center PC... a category it hopes will catch on in a big way with consumers. There's also a push to sell pricier PCs to hard core game players. HP... has created new Compaq branded gaming PCs being sold at select retailers. HP's L. J. Skibbe...

"It's a brushed aluminum case. It's got some high tech blue lights, both front and rear. And it also has USB controls both top, back and front as well as our new Audigy, or the Creative Labs 2 Audigy control panel."
