New Plans for Prismiq

Techstination feature for Monday, December 22, 2003

The best way to get video, photos and music from your PC... to your TV. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's one of the top new technology products of the year. The 250 dollar MediaPlayer from a company called Prismiq. That's P-r-i-s-m-i-q. The small box connects to your TV and stereo system... and brings in through a wired or wireless network connection... video, music and photos... that you have stored on PCs elsewhere in the house. But Prismiq VP Brad Kayton acknowledges... his company faces plenty of big name competition... from companies like Linksys, Hewlett Packard and others...

"It's okay. It's pretty obvious that a lot of people have content out at the PC. Photos and audio files that they want to get out to the living room... to the stereo... where they have expensive audio equipment, expensive video equipment. It's okay, we think it's important to have competition. You need to have lots of choices. We just think that we have the best product and it forces us to have more innovation. And of course we're launching a new product that we think will allow us to stay ahead of the competition."

Next up... is the Prismiq MediaPlayer Recorder. For under three hundred dollars... it will combine the existing player... with Tivo like capability... p>
"You put from the cable box or the satellite box the input into our box and we record it back at the PC."

Without added fees for a program guide. Prismiq says the new device will arrive next spring. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
