Karpov Checks Out Majestic Chess

Techstination feature for Wednesday, December 31, 2003

The latest generation of chess for your PC. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. 16 time world chess champion Anatoly Karpov has been a long time proponent of chess education. He has helped to create schools to teach the game around the world... and he is working with Fluent Entertainment, creator of Hoyle Majestic Chess for Windows and PocketPCs. The company has sponsored the 2004 Majestic Chess All America Team. As far as Karpov is concerned ... there are lots of reasons why teaching the game is important...

"With the help of chess, you can teach children a lot of things which is quite difficult for them to obtain from other subjects. So in chess, you need logic. In chess, you need to make planning. In chess, if you don't have a plan, if you don't construct for yourself a strategy of the game, and you don't know what you want to obtain at the end, then you will lose for sure. Because each move should be connected with another one."

Majestic Chess steps up the graphics to make the game more interesting to beginners... .and while it helps to teach... advanced levels allow more challenging online play or games against the computer. Karpov acknowledges that while the under thirty dollar game is good... it's not about to beat him...

"This is for other levels." You're politely telling me you can beat this pretty easily. "Of course, of course."
