They call it a CameraCorder. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. It's a device that looks like an electric shaver. But Sanyo Fisher's FVD-C1 CameraCorder is one of the coolest digital cameras on the market. It takes both decent quality three megapixel still images... .and DVD like video. Most remarkable of all is its ease of use. Push one button for video... .push another for stills... .or take snapshots while you are shooting video. Instead of tapes, the camera uses an included 512 megabyte SD memory card... .enough for about half an hour of video. That's a bit of a drawback, but sales and marketing VP Isaac Levy says...

"One gig cards will become available this year and we're looking at recording time of one hour in a very high resolution mode, in a DVD like quality mode."

While they have come down in price, memory cards are still pretty expensive. That's one reason why the CameraCorder is selling for about 900 dollars. That's higher than a much higher quality digital still camera... .and higher than many digital camcorders. But having a device that can do both and slip into a shirt pocket is pretty nice. And the price should come down in the months ahead...

"One of the things we look at in the equation because our product is packaged currently with a 512 megabyte card is... as the price of cards come down, we'll see a reduction in the price of the product."
