An upgraded tool for editing those home movies. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. As more and more consumers buy digital camcorders and update their PCs... sales of software to edit video and burn DVDs are rising. One of the top tools is from Pinnacle Systems... which is just out with Studio 9. Senior product manager Mike Iampietro... says among the key improvements...

"First is what I call the home cinema experience. And this means that if you have a digital camcorder that shoots wide screen video, the 16 by 9 format, we can use that in Studio. We detect that you've shot 16 by 9 and preserve that throughout the process. As well as that, we can also do surround sound."

What Pinnacle has also thrown in, which may prove to be the most valuable of the new features, are video cleaning and restoration capabilities...

"We know that a lot of people shoot video that doesn't turn out the way that they wanted it to. The video might be poorly lit. It might be too dark, have bad colors. It might be shaky video. It might have static or snow or noise in it if it's an older analog tape. And Studio has a variety of tools, one button, one click, that let you rescue that video and clean up the colors and the lighting and smooth out the shaky video."
