"This is called the HDTV UpConverter. And it is a few things. One is it's an audio video switcher…so you can connect up to nine different video devices to one box. Convert all of your RCA, S-video connections, even an analog TV tuner into a component output. One component cable going to your HDTV device. It also upscales, has noise reduction and de-interlacing. So we can remove the lines and the little jaggy motion artifacts that happen in standard definition TV."
While the results aren't the same as watching true HDTV, the picture is significantly improved over what you'd see without the UpConverter….
"It's not going to make it true HD, because true HD has to be originated from a high definition camera. But we can get near HD."
The ADS Technologies device can be used with any type of video source, such as VCRs or DVD players in addition to cable and satellite boxes. The six hundred dollar price may sound expensive, but it is considerably less than many other up-converter solutions. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
