More secure wireless networks. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Adding a wireless router to a home network…is usually pretty simple. The great thing is, it lets you put your PC… just about anywhere…and still be connected. The problem is…while a lot of networking equipment being sold today has the latest encryption security capability…it is usually turned off by default. That means…someone in a neighboring apartment or house….if they are within range…can pretty simply gain access to data you have stored on your PC. That's why Buffalo Technology is now selling wireless cards and routers with what it calls a One Touch Secure system. V{ Morikazo Sano…

"What it does is, on the router we have a physical button that you press. And then on the software side, on the client side, we have an icon in the software that you need to click. That's all you need to do as a consumer to configure wireless connections between the router and adapter and also it sets up a security protocol."

It's a great idea…and makes securing a wireless network simple. One problem is the One Touch system is designed to work only with Buffalo Technology hardware. But if you are starting from scratch…the solution makes sense….

"Over 70 percent of current wireless LAN users are not setting up any security. And they don't know how dangerous that is."

Buffalo is working on software to allow its security system to work with Intel's Centrino processors with built in wireless capability. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
