Digital Photos Without a PC... FlipAlbum Recorder

Techstination feature for Monday, August 16, 2004

Digital photos…without a PC. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. Digital camera sales continue to grow…and while using a PC to edit, store and print pictures makes a lot of sense…it isn't a necessity. A number of ink jet printers on the market include memory card slots…or will link to digital cameras directly using a USB cable. Kiosks in supermarkets, drug stores and many other retailers will let you print pictures from memory cards. Now E.Book Systems is selling what it calls the FlipAlbum Recorder. Insert a memory card….and watch your pictures in a slide show on your TV…or burn the slide show onto a CD…on the spot. E.Book Systems' Randy Rullamas…

"For consumers who want to take something on a vacation so that they can archive their photos, it's perfect for that. That way they don't have to continue to buy memory cards. They can just burn the photos directly onto CD to archive it. And if they want to show it to friends and family, they can plug in the unit to their family's TV and then they can view it directly on the TV."

And you can do it all without a computer. Two drawbacks…the FlipAlbum Recorder requires AC power…and the price seems on the high side…249 dollars. E.Book Systems, however, does include its FlipAlbum 5 Pro software….which sells on its own for 130 dollars. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
