Sending grandma a picture….straight from your printer. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. HP has added wired and wireless networking to some brand new printers….and combined with what HP calls its Instant Share technology…they let you do some pretty neat things. Plug a memory card in from your digital camera….and from the printer's LCD screen…send the photo to another HP printer on the other side of the country…or the other side of the world. And it's done without the need to even boot up a PC. HP VP Boris Elisman…

"They have built in networking, either wireless networking or wired networking and you can just upload images through an application to the server that HP hosts…that's a free server…and then that server will move, depending on the email address or the IP address, to the printer that you're trying to connect to."

New printers with the capability include the new 2710 All in One and the Photosmart 8450. HP is also using new ink cartridge technology it calls Vivera to produce prints that will last for generations…

"To give you an example, a typical image today lasts about twenty years on Kodak paper or on a three ink printer today. We're going to improve the longevity of those prints to eighty years."

That's one way HP is fighting back against the growing number of companies that are offering to refill ink cartridges. HP and other manufacturers make more of their money from sales of ink…than from the printers themselves. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
