Streaming video…on your cell phone. Bloomberg Boot Camp, a report on today's technology. There are more and more new things you can do with cell phones all the time. The latest from Samsung, the Multimedia A700…has a new chip from Qualcomm that lets it receive and display good quality streaming video. Sprint PCS VP Jeff Hallock…

"The video comes through at up to 15 frames per second, very high quality from the consumer's point of view. They'll see video that they think is very clean, very clear to watch and we're really putting it into the consumer behavior that's familiar…which is for people to sit and watch things like TV. But now they can do that on their phone."

And it gives Sprint the opportunity to sell of packages of channels like your cable or satellite TV company. Among those available…CNN, Fox Sports and the Weather Channel. The streaming clips are good…but there are times…depending on your connection…when the sound doesn't quite sync up with the picture. Eventually…higher speed networks may allow the streaming of programs and movies….not just clips.

"For the last couple of years, we've been trying to give customers things to do with their phones other than just to talk on the phone. And this gives them a chance to watch TV in short clips when they have the time to spare during the day in their busy lives."

Pricing for Sprint TV starts at about ten dollars a month….with the handset selling for 250 dollars. The MM-A700 has one of the best one megapixel digital cameras we've seen built in. It has a rotating lens, a mini flash and can shoot fifteen second video clips as well. Bloomberg Boot Camp, I'm Fred Fishkin.
